Case Studies

Sherry Milligan explains: “Over the years many Equine Athletes have been in my care.  My experiences with the traditional approaches to their healthcare were frustrating.  Time and economics take precedence over prevention and cures.  The eagerness for quick and easy solutions leads to disorders treated with drugs that may simply mask and suppress symptoms without addressing the underlying cause.

Challenged to find alternatives; I began looking for a larger scope of concepts and ideas.  My self-directed study convinced me to change my approach to natural choices for performance, health and healing.  I applied my newfound knowledge and have seen horses get well and recover from conditions considered hopeless from the conventional perspective. “

“Sherry Milligan has reduced down time of increasing healing rate using the 3-STEP INTERACTIVE PLAN on tendons and suspensory ligaments.  Using ultra sound the structures appear to heal at an increased rate.  Fiber alignment occurs quicker and better than without treatment.”
Dr. CJ Schwartz, DVM

The 3-STEP INTERACTIVE PLAN for Equine Performance and Recovery addresses:

•  Wounds
•  Loss of elasticity
•  Breakdown and inflammation of the synovial fluids
•  Damage to bone, tendon, ligament and muscle
•  Inflamed disc and sciatic nerve
•  Inflamed joints associated with training, competition and aging
•  Post-surgical recovery
•  Maintenance and prevention

The
3-STEP INTERACTIVE PLAN for Equine Performance and Recovery gives horses a second chance solution — even with the worst problems. The results can be amazing.

By affecting cellular metabolism, this three-step program has:

•  Decreased inflammation and pain
•  Normalized infection
•  Repaired damage to bone, cartilage, muscle and tissue
•  Reversed throat ulcerations
•  Shortened post-surgical recovery time
•  Treated tendons and ligaments, resulting in properly aligned fiber repair
•  Treated abscesses
•  Managed wound care without stitches or medication
•  Benefited pre- and post-competition

What has been noted with regular use of the
3-STEP INTERACTIVE PLAN is that there is a high success where other therapies have failed in chronic diseases as well as old and new injuries.
Below you will find case studies.

Decreased Inflammation and Pain (1)

Rare Little Lady, a thoroughbred filly racing at Louisiana Downs, suffered a serious puncture wound to her left front foot.

She was treated with pain medication and the antibiotic Baytril. Regretfully the procedure was unsuccessful. She was sent to Equine Alternatives. Her foot was cleaned with hydrogen peroxide, and using a diaper, packed with cold processed caster oil. Her leg was sprayed with an Equine Alternatives' formulation and she was given pulsed electromagnetic frequency treatments.

The photos represent 5 days of Equine Alternatives' twice daily therapies.

Decreased Inflammation and Pain (2)

A 7-year-old Miniature, Cheyenne, experienced colicky symptoms over a period of several days. She was treated for an impaction by her veterinarian but remained uncomfortable. Upon her arrival she was oiled again and using Magnopro Equine neck applicator over her back, like a blanket, she was treated for 15 minutes. In less than an hour her bowels moved.

Normalized infection

3-year-old Thoroughbred Hannah's Creek, lost by 30 lengths at Oaklawn Park, April 13.  It was determined that she had a lung infection.

A culture was done and appropriate antibiotics and conventional treatments were used for over two months.  When she was not cured, the 3-STEP INTERACTIVE PLAN for equine performance and recovery was introduced.

She was returned to her trainer July 22 and won a 7-furlong race July 31. See DAILY RACING FORM

Repaired damage to bone, cartilage, muscle, tissue (1)

High on Wishes, a 4-year-old Thoroughbred gelding was extremely lame in his left fore.

X-rays showed a fractured coffin bone. Treatment using the
3-STEP INTERACTIVE PLAN for equine performance and recovery began June 4th.  By June 24th, all lameness was gone and x-rays showed that healing had begun.  The Magnopro Equine Pen was introduced to the outside of the hoof and on August 4th, x-rays showed the fracture healed.

Repaired damage to bone, cartilage, muscle, tissue (2)

A Quarter Horse suckling we referred to as “Scotts Foal”,
arrived with his Dam March 9th.  This foal was several weeks old, had been born prematurely, was sick, weak and given little chance to live.  Additionally, crooked legs too weak to hold him further compromised him and his right knee had been stepped on crushing it.  March 16 radiographs taken by Dr. CJ Schwartz revealed “ Salter fracture of right distal radius”.  This colt responded well to a great deal of intensive care and use of the Magnopro Equine.  Dr. Schwartz’s October 7 radiographs revealed, “Epiphyseal fracture healed”.  After the fracture healed Dr. Swartz inserted a screw temporarily to help straighten this joint.

Not yet perfect this colt is big and strong, happy, healthy and very fortunate to have an exceptional owner willing to give him the second chance we offer when the odds were very much against him.

Shortened post-surgical recovery time (1)

Quarter Horse Weanling Filly arrived with a large growth covering most of her left front pastern.

A biopsy confirmed the growth should be surgically removed.  Post surgery the filly was fed Replenish n Repair, treated with the Magnopro Equine Pen. Replenish n Repair gel was applied to the surgery site daily.  She was walked by hand and turned out in a small pen.

The surgery site healed and there was no loss of function to her pastern joint.

Shortened post-surgical recovery time (2)

Red Bird’s Rhema, a 3-yr old thoroughbred filly was sent to Equine Alternatives, Inc for post-surgical aftercare.  This filly arrived March 15 and Dr. CJ Schwartz took post surgery radiographs March 16 of her right knee. His comment was “fracture line evident. Fixation good.”

Treatment using the
3-STEP INTERACTIVE PLAN began and Dr. Schwartz took additional x-rays May 12.  He then said, “fracture line NOT evident. NO arthritis visible.   To monitor Rhema’s progress during training Dr. Schwartz took x-rays August 27, and stated “NO arthritis seen”

Reversed throat ulcerations

Slew's Sunny - "Endoscopic examination revealed an inflamed larynx with a small lesion on an aretnoid.  Post treatment exam indicated inflammation gone and lesion barely visible with endoscope.  Did not reoccur with training."  Dr. CJ Schwartz, DVM

Treated tendons and ligaments, resulting in properly aligned fiber repair

Accelerando, a 4-year old Bay Thoroughbred bowed a tendon during a race.

Ultrasound showed a core lesion, involving approximately 35% of the superficial digital flexor tendon.  Treatment began using the
3-STEP INTERACTIVE PLAN for equine performance and recovery.  The tendon healed and the core lesion filled with fibers that are well aligned.  Accelerando returned to racing successfully and has gone on to win.

Treated abscesses

Ibelongtobelle, a 6 – year – old Thoroughbred Stallion, developed a high fever and swelling under his jaw a few days after arrival.

He was diagnosed with highly contagious Strangles.  He received banamine twice when his fever exceeded 103, but did not receive any other medication.  His jaw was cleaned with hydrogen peroxide, massaged with cold processed caster oil and treated with the Magnopro Equine Leg Applicator around his neck.  When his lymph nodes abscessed, treatment continued, Replenish n Repair gel was applied directly to the wound and the pink ointment “Swat” around the wound to deter flies.  Sanitation was a primary concern and this Stallion fully recovered in less than two weeks with no infection to the other horses in the barn.

Managed wound care without stitches or medication

Baycliff, a 2 – year – old Thoroughbred gelding received a very deep and gaping puncture wound.

He was treated 2 –3 x’s a day with the 3-STEP INTERACTIVE RECOVERY PLAN. First the wound was cleaned thoroughly with hydrogen peroxide and hydrotherapy applied for a minimum of 15 minutes.  Next the wound was flushed with more hydrogen peroxide and sprayed with an Equine Alternatives’ formulation.  Baycliff was lead from the wash rack to our treatment stall and the wound covered with plastic wrap.  PEMF treatments were given with the Magnopro Equine Pen.

This horse received no medication, was walked by hand daily and his wound healed without infection or muscle atrophy.

Benefit pre- and post- competition

Grand Mystery- a 5-year-old Thoroughbred mare had a history of “crazy”, “nut case”, and “can’t train”.

In hopes of settling her prior to racing her trainer attempted to school her in the paddock; Grand Mystery was so nervous she flipped upside down and injured her back and neck.  She arrived very sour and unhappy.  We began treating her with the entire Magnopro Equine Deluxe System prior to training each day.  The relaxation setting settled her and she began to enjoy training.  This filly was treated prior to every race, won, and continued to race successfully.  The photo shows a happy filly that will literally lead her groom to the Magnopro Equine treatment stall.
